Honduras: Economic Outlook up to March 2019

During the third month of the year, it was forecast that GDP growth at the end of 2019 will be at 3.9%, and by 2020 the variation is expected to be 4.1%.

In March 2019, the Index of Confidence in Economic Activity was 65% (63.5%), where 46.2% is because of the result of current economic activity and 53.8% because of future activity (46% and 54% in the previous month, respectively), reported the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).

The report explains that "... Regarding the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the consulted forecast a quarterly variation of 0.8% and 0.9% for the first and second quarter of 2019, respectively (0.8% for both periods in the survey of the previous month).

The annual growth of the GDP at the end of 2019, according to those interviewed, would be at 3.9% (3.8% in the survey of the previous month); and for 2020 they forecast a 4.1% increase (equal to the estimated in the survey of the previous month).

The informers are optimistic regarding the country's macroeconomic stability, and expect economic activity to improve because of the dynamism of consumption, the generation of jobs in the area of tourism and the implementation of infrastructure projects.

Business Confidence Remains Down in 2019

March 2019

After January 2019 the Confidence in Economic Activity Index in Guatemala reported a 3% y-o-y decrease, in February the variation was of -8% regarding the same month of 2018.

The report of the Bank of Guatemala summarizes that during February "... An inflationary rhythm of 3.96% was forecast for February, 4.09% for March and 4.19% for April 2019.
