Honduras: Contract for License Plates Goes to German Company

A consortium of German origin, Tonjes, has been selected to provide a five year supply of new number plates for vehicles and motorcycles.

The bid submitted by the Consortium Tonjes incorporates the use of new technology to prevent cloning of plates. The price of the plates for cars is $10.51 and for motorcycles, $13.23.

The higher cost of the plates for motorcycles is due to the fact that these will have specific security measures and that raises the price. The change over of number plates for the entire fleet of vehicles will begin in March 2015. "

Tender for 400,000 Licence Plates

The Revenue Office of Honduras has began the process of acquiring more than 400,000 licence plates for private vehicles and motorcycles at a cost of up to $1.8 million.

According to Alejandrina Rodriguez, administrative manager of the Executive Directorate of Revenue (DEI), the tender states that the earliest delivery of all the plates must be 60 calendar days from the signing of the contract, with the ability to deliver in two installments, one at 30 days and one at 60 days.

Tender For Vehicle Number Plates

The Executive Directorate of Revenue is preparing the launch of a tender in Honduras for 500,000 number plates for motorcycles and cars.

The Revenue Office (DEI by its initials in Spanish) is working on the terms of the competition to be held internationally, which could be ready in one to three weeks. On this time frame the new batch of plates should be ready between July and August.
