Honduras: Construction of Cement Plant Announced

The company Argos plans to invest $21 million in a new cement plant with capacity to produce up to 440,000 tons per year in Choloma, department of Cortés.

According to officials from Argos Honduras, the new plant will expand the company's total production capacity by 30%.

Gustavo Uribe, general manager of Argos Honduras told Elheraldo.hn that " ... they have started the topographic works and according to the current schedule the inauguration of the plant will be in December of this year".

The operation of the new plant will come on top of that of Comayagua and the grinding plant of San Lorenzo, which together will reach an installed capacity of around 1.7 million tons per year.

The new Cementos Progreso plant, in San Juan Sacatepéquez, Guatemala, will be in a test phase throughout 2019 and is expected to begin operations in 2020.

Representatives of the company reported that the installed capacity will be 4,500 tons of clinker per day, equivalent to 320 tons of cement per hour, about 400 trucks per day.
