Honduras Brings Back Up Renewable Energy Projects

There are new conversations between the Honduran Association of Small Producers of Renewable Energy and the National Electricity Company.

The interest shown by the new administration of the National Company of Electric Energy (ENEE, Spanish acronym) in renewable energy production, could reignite 25 to 30 projects, that once the required paperwork is done, could be operating in 18 to 24 months, outputting 150 megawatts.

An ElHeraldo.hn article remarks that: "The international financial crisis caused a 50 MW drop in energy consumption. During the summer of 2008, energy demand reached 1.158 MW, and fell to 1.100 during the same period this year".

More than 70 investors have acquired the rules for the tender aimed at generating energy on a small scale.

"So far we have registered over 70 projects, and this could mean we end up with double the amount of supply we would have had based on the projections of 15 MW.
