Honduras Authorizes 23 MW Hydroelectric Project

Congress has approved the operating contract for the installation of the hydroelectricity station Cuyamel, in the department of Cortés.

Laprensa.hn reports: "The operation contract is located in the Frio River, a tributary of Cuyamel, five miles southeast of the city of Cuyamel, department of Cortés."

Cuyamel SA have the capacity to generate 7,800 kilowatt hours and 22,700,000 kilowatts annually.

With this project the National Electricity Company (ENEE) will save up to $400,000 per year, because the energy will be sold to the state company.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has given the company Generación Limpia ("Clean Generation") the go ahead for the construction of the hydroelectric power facility.

The 'Cuatro Chorros' ("four streams") project is to be carried out by Generación Limpia, part of the Spanish group, Unión Fenosa, and is located in Chicamán, Quiché, western Guatemala.
