Honduras Analyzes New Hydroelectric Project

Authorities in Tomalá, western Honduras, are discussing construction of a 13 MW hydroelectric plant.

Authorities and representatives of different sectors of society held a meeting to establish legal structure, the environmental studies, permits and financing.

"The initiative will operate through a model of community participation and has been technically supported from the beginning by UNDP, which contributed in planning, land management and setting priorities for community development," reported Proceso.hn.

Guatemala: Another Hydroelectric License Suspended

The Constitutional Court has temporarily suspended the environmental license granted to the 40 MW Rocja Pontilá hydroelectric project located in Cobán, Alta Verapaz.

The Court's decision is based on a case filed by members of the communities in the area near the lagoon of Lachúa, who argue that the Ministry of Environment granted permission to develop the project "anomalously."

Guatemala: Endorsement of Fourth Phase of Hydroelectric Station

Permission has been granted to develop a fourth stage of the hydroelectric project Renace, to be built in the department of Alta Verapaz.

Phase of the four of the Renace hydroelectric project received final authorization for use of public property, namely the channel of the rivers Cahabón and Canlich, for 50 years.

Honduras Authorizes 23 MW Hydroelectric Project

Congress has approved the operating contract for the installation of the hydroelectricity station Cuyamel, in the department of Cortés.

Laprensa.hn reports: "The operation contract is located in the Frio River, a tributary of Cuyamel, five miles southeast of the city of Cuyamel, department of Cortés."

Company “Generación Limpia de Guatemala” (Spanish for Clean Energy Generation Guatemala), requested authorization to build 4 hydroelectric power generation projects.

The request to build these 304 MW projects was formally made to the Energy and Mining Ministry, and they were detailed by newspaper El Periódico (name, location, capacity, and cost):
