Honduras: $79 Million for Housing Construction

The private sector and the state will earmark $79.43 million for loans for housing construction in response to the economic crisis.

Enrique Briceño, former Housing Minister and representative for the Honduran Construction Industry Chamber told El Heraldo: "The solution to this crisis has begun in the housing sector and infrastructure investment. More than 1.5 billion Lempiras are reaching the poorest population at an interest rate of 9 to 10%."

Housing Credit Down 55% In El Salvador

Up to June banks had only provided financing for housing projects worth $14.36 million, while in the same period last year it had already reached $32 million.  

"The new housing projects can be counted on the fingers of one hand," said the executive director of the Salvadoran Chamber of Construction Industry (Casalco), Ismael Nolasco, adding that the drop is a reflection of an industry that is not investing in large housing projects because it has seen any demand.

Panama: $170 Million for Mortgage Loans

During this year, the "Caja de Ahorros" (CA) aims to place $170 million in Mortgage Loans.

By the end of August $73,2 million have already been lent and the goal is to double this amount, pointed Rodrigo Arosemena, General Manager of this organization.

Arosemena commented to Panamá América that "...we will focus on promoting savings and we will increase mortgages, mainly those with preferential interest or under $30 thousand."

Costa Rica: 100% Home Financing

“Banco de Costa Rica” earmarked $100 million for a home loans program called “Vivienda para Elegir” (“Homes to Choose”).

Loans can be in dollars or Colones, and is intended for Costa Rican nationals or residents.

This financing is only available is the customer has additional collateral for the down payment.

$211 million for construction in Honduras

The Central Bank announced the availability of the funds to finance the construction of homes.

Latribuna.hn reports: "The president of the Honduras Chamber of the Construction Industry (CHICO), William Hall, announced that the Government will build more than 10,000 years this year with the financial aid.
