Honduras: 4% year-on-year Inflation up to January 2019

During the first month of the year, the rise in the consumer price index was caused by the behavior of the Water and Electricity Supply and Rental Divisions.

Tuesday, February 12, 2019

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) registered a 0.03% monthly variation in January 2019, the lowest observed in that month since 2016, informed the Central Bank of Honduras.

The document reviews that "... The rise in the index was driven by increases in the prices of water and electricity supplies, as well as rental housing; increases almost entirely offset by decreases in the prices of fuels and some perishable foods.

With this result, year-on-year inflation was 3.95% (4.57% twelve months ago, the lowest since September 2017).

According to their contribution, the category contributing the most to the increase in the indicator was "Accommodation, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels" with 0.13 pp; while the groups "Clothing and Footwear" and "Personal Care" contributed 0.02 pp each; likewise, "Furniture and Home Maintenance Articles", "Health", "Recreation and Culture" and "Hotels, Cafeterias and Restaurants" contributed 0.01 pp each. Meanwhile, the "Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages" and "Transport" categories partly offset the inflationary pressures of the month with percentage shares of -0.08 pp and -0.10 pp, respectively.
