Honduras: 4% Inflation up to February 2020

During the second month of the year, the Consumer Price Index registered a 3.99% year-on-year variation, a rise that was determined in part by the behavior of the prices of education services, hotels and restaurants.

From the Central Bank of Honduras report:

The monthly behavior of the CPI was determined by the contribution of the item "Education" with 0.51 percentage points (pp), together with the items "Recreation and Culture" and "Hotels, Cafes and Restaurants" with 0.04 pp, each. On the contrary, "Transportation" contributed -0.18 pp to the monthly inflation.

Additionally, increases were registered in the price indexes of the following headings: "Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco" with 1.17%; "Furniture and Home Preservation Articles" with 0.20%; "Clothing and Footwear" with 0.13%; "Personal Care" with 0.12%; "Health" with 0.10%; "Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels" with 0.03%.

In February 2020, consumer prices increased in all regions represented in the CPI, except the Rest of the Central region, which reflected a fall of -0.12%. On the other hand, the greatest variation was registered in the Central Metropolitan region (0.97%), followed by the South (0.42%), North Metropolitan (0.33%) and East (0.22%); and in a lesser proportion the price indexes in the Western and Rest of the North regions increased with 0.03%, each one.

Honduras: Inflation Still Accelerating

February 2020

After the inflationary rhythm went from 3.8% to 4.1% between November and December 2019, during January 2020 the year-on-year CPI was 4.3%.

In the first month of 2020, the monthly variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 0.24% (0.03% in January 2019), an increase driven by the rise in the price of services related to housing, some food and recreational and cultural items and services.

In September 2019, monthly inflation -measured through the variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI)- was 0.15%.

February 2019

During the first month of the year, the rise in the consumer price index was caused by the behavior of the Water and Electricity Supply and Rental Divisions.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) registered a 0.03% monthly variation in January 2019, the lowest observed in that month since 2016, informed the Central Bank of Honduras.

Nicaragua: 4.9% YoY Inflation up to March 2018

April 2018

During the third month of the year, the CPI recorded a monthly variation of 0.14%, mainly explained by the prices of accommodation, water, electricity and gas, and restaurants and hotels.
