The categories with the highest contribution to monthly inflation were "Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels" with 0.37%, "Transportation" with 0.21% and "Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages" with 0.16% -concentrating 80.4% of the total-, likewise, the groups "Personal Care", "Furniture and Articles for Home Maintenance" and "Clothing and Footwear" contributed in less proportion, informed the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).

The report states that "... The monthly variation of the index of this item was 2.20%, mainly associated with the increase in fuel prices at the international level, transferred to domestic prices of fuels for vehicle use, as well as higher fares on international air tickets, due to the high season for Easter.

The monthly growth of the indicator of this category was 1.83%, mainly linked to the increase in the price of residential electricity, as well as kerosene gas and rental housing services.

Other items that presented monthly increases in their price index were: "Personal Care" with 1.13%; "Furniture and Home Maintenance Items" with 0.78%; "Clothing and Footwear" with 0.39%; "Communications" with 0.13%; "Recreation and Culture" with 0.22%; "Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco" with 0.12%; "Health" with 0.10% and "Hotels, Cafeterias and Restaurants" with 0.08%."

Honduras: 4% Y-o-Y Inflation by February 2019

The prices reported in the categories of Education, and Food and alcoholic beverages, largely explained the monthly variation of the CPI recorded in the second month of the year.

From the Central Bank of Honduras report:

The monthly growth of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in February 2019 was 0.77%, influenced mainly by the increase in the price of school fees at different levels of private education, as well as the higher price of some food and fuel. As a result, year-on-year inflation stood at 4.09% (4.33% twelve months ago), and accumulated inflation at 0.80%.

Honduras Ended 2018 with 4.2% Inflation

January 2019

In December, the CPI recorded a slight monthly change of 0.2%, because of rising prices of clothing, rental housing, electricity and some medicines.

From the Report of the Central Bank of Honduras:

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed a monthly variation of 0.19% in December 2018, same that was lower to the observed in December 2017 (0.65%), linked to the increase in prices of clothing, housing rent, electricity supply and some medicines, being partly compensated by the reduction in the prices of fuels and some perishable foods. While the year on year inflation was at 4.22%1 (4.73% twelve months ago).

Honduras: Annual Inflation up to August 2018 is 4.4%

The consumer price index recorded a monthly variation of 0.44%, due to an increase in the prices of urban passenger transport and some items of clothing.

In August 2018, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed a monthly variation of 0.44%, mainly determined by higher prices in urban passenger transport, as well some items of clothing.

Honduras: 4.2% YoY Inflation Up to June 2018

July 2018

The consumer price index registered a monthly variation of 0.41%, due to an increase in the prices of fuels, and some foods.
