Honduras: $1 Million In Landslide Prevention

The mayoralty of Tegucigalpa will invest the resources in preventing landslides in the neighborhood of “La Cabaña”.

Mayor Ricardo Alvarez said the funds come from the Government of Japan. The project will channel accumulated water, which causes landslides.

“He regretted that this project was halted last year after a series of landslides. He noted however, that they are resuming works, as the Government of Japan is only waiting on an compensation letter for the affected residents, and then they will only need 90 days to disburse the money”, reported Tiempo.hn.

Panama Promoted in Spain

The Panamanian Minister of Economy presented investment opportunities in infrastructure projects.

Europapress.es reports, "The projects include cleaning the city and the Bay of Panama, the rehabilitation of the network of roads and highways, which have an estimated investment of 1,068 million Euros [approx. $ 1,500 million] and the construction Metro Line 1, which will start in December 2010.

Singapore asks Panama to improve infrastructure

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Singapore said the the requests were made by companies from their country which are already operating in Panama.

After three years of a FTA with Singapore, companies from that country are report "excellent experiences" but also point to the need for "Panama to improve its infrastructure in order to be more competitive, and for the local labor force to have better training and orientation."
