Honduran agricultural exports increase by 18%

Last year there were $540 million in agricultural exports to the US and total bilateral trade in agricultural products is now adding up to almost $800 million.

Compared to the 2006-2007 period, the country had an increase in agricultural products of 17%, and for this year the expected growth is 20%.
The capacity for commercial trade with the US has increased, however, there is still more potential to export products; there are more than 100 fruits and vegetables produced in the country that are now admissible to the US and there are another 12 that are in the process of getting entrance permits.

Exports from Mexico to Central America Increase

The fastest growing products reported in 2010 were cocoa beans with 195% and sugar cane with 94%.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, of the twenty most exported products, ten of them reported significant growth.

"Of those 20 products, 17 agricultural exports reported increases during that period, including sugar cane with 94%, ethyl alcohol 159%, cocoa beans 195%, palm oil 217%, prepared or preserved meat with 39%, fruit juice 46%, unroasted coffee 39%, frozen bovine meat 55%, cheese 69%, eggs 20%, other milk 16%; and vegetables 17%, among others," informs Laestrella.com.pa.

El Salvador's agricultural exports grow by 26%

El Salvador's agricultural exports form the other side of the rising food costs coin: while food and fuel costs rise within the country, farmers are getting more money than ever from their exports of food products.

The Minister of Agriculture for the nation, Mario Salverría, says the main product being exported is coffee, which has brought in 204 million dollars worth of revenues this year.
