Honduran Airfield Inaugurated

With the start of operations of the new runway in the city of Gracias in Lempira, more tourist traffic is expected in the area.

According to Javier Enamorado, mayor in the area, the runway is 1,300 meters long and 80 meters wide. "These projects strengthen the area and today we are getting better prepared because the type of tourist who will come is more demanding," he added.

"Gracias is ready to receive visitors because we have first quality hotels and restaurants," he said.

Meanwhile the Minister of Tourism, Nelly Jerez, said "with the airfield there will be a triangulation between Roatan, Copan and Lempira, which will bring new tourism development to the area."

The President Juan Orlando Hernandez opened the Río Amarillo airport, 18 kilometers from the Copan ruins, which is now the second air terminal built under his administration, after the de Gracias airport in Lempira.

Roatan - Gracias - Copán Air Triangle for Cruise Tourists

The government has announced that it has the land where construction will begin for the airfield valued at $730 thousand, 17 kilometers from the Copan Mayan ruins.

The government said it plans to start the construction work with measuring and transfer of equipment early next month.
