Historical low in the price of Costa Rica foreign debt bonds

The price of Costa Rica foreign debt bonds have had a had a record decline in the last 20 days.

The fall occurred in transactions carried out in the local National Stock Exchange and abroad.

At the Exchange, all prices for these bonds have trended down; notwithstanding, the most dramatic fall was for the bond that expires in 2020 whose price went from 128.26% on October 7 to 98% yesterday.

ICE Raises $11.6 million

The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) has received $11.6 million from the stock market by issuing bonds denominated in that currency and which mature on February 13th , 2019.

According to a Blog by Aldesa, Pulso Bursatil:

The certificate has a coupon of 5.5% on a quarterly basis and was in demand by individual investors primarily because the average amount of the 105 offers was for $110,000.

Café Britt Issues $ 20 Million in Bonds

The Costa Rican company announced a standardized bond debt of $ 20 million.

The company had already made an issuance in 2003 and this time the funds will be used to invest in productive assets and replacing of bank liabilities.

El Financiero´s website adds, "At the moment, the information contained specifies that the face value of the instrument will be $ 1.00, on a quarterly basis and with placement on the National Stock Exchange."

Prices lowers for Costa Rica's foreign debt bonds

The price of Costa Rica's foreign debt bonds fell in September after the financial crisis got worse.

The bond which has dropped the most is the one that will expire in 2020. This bond was selling at 132% in May of 2008, then on October 7 it dropped to 128%, and later to 118% on October 10.
