Hiring Begins 2019 Downward

During the first quarter of the year, 57,724 work contracts were registered in Panama, 17% less than the 69,291 reported in the same period of 2018.

Data from the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development detail that between the first three months of 2018 and the same period of 2019, the types of indefinite contracts registered a decrease, dropping from 19,117 to 13,839.

The ministerial reports specify that the defined type and finished work labor contracts also registered a decrease for the periods involved, dropping from 28,226 and 21,948 to 25,787 and 18,098, respectively.

In relation to the proportion of temporary work contracts, which takes into account those of a defined type and by finished work, their proportion of the total for the periods in question increased from 72% in 2018 to 76% in 2019.

Recruitment Goes Down

November 2018

Between January and October, 222.000 work contracts were registered in Panama, 4% less than the 232.000 contracts reported during the same period in 2017.

According to figures from the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development, between the first ten months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the indefinite contracts registered a slight increase, rising from 62,284 to 62,635.

Less Labor Contracts in Panama

May 2018

In the first quarter of the year, 69,291 work contracts were registered, which is equivalent to a fall of 3% compared to the 71,043 contracts reported in the same period in 2017.

The Ministry of Work and Labor Development reported that between the first quarters of 2017 and 2018, permanent contracts were the only types that registered an increase, rising from 17,804 to 19,117.
