Hiring Begins 2019 Downward

During the first quarter of the year, 57,724 work contracts were registered in Panama, 17% less than the 69,291 reported in the same period of 2018.

Data from the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development detail that between the first three months of 2018 and the same period of 2019, the types of indefinite contracts registered a decrease, dropping from 19,117 to 13,839.

The ministerial reports specify that the defined type and finished work labor contracts also registered a decrease for the periods involved, dropping from 28,226 and 21,948 to 25,787 and 18,098, respectively.

In relation to the proportion of temporary work contracts, which takes into account those of a defined type and by finished work, their proportion of the total for the periods in question increased from 72% in 2018 to 76% in 2019.

Labor Hiring Declines 15% by April 2019

June 2019

During the first four months of the year, 77,282 work contracts were registered in Panama, 15% less than the 91,305 reported in the same period of 2018.

Data from the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development detail that between January and April 2018 and the same period in 2019, the indefinite contract types registered a decrease, going down from 25,980 to 18,878.

Labor Hiring Fell 7% in 2018

February 2019

During last year, 258,000 work contracts were registered in Panama, 7% less than the 278,000 reported in 2017, and the decline is mainly due to the decrease in temporary contracts.

Data from the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development detail that between 2017 and 2018, the types of indefinite contracts registered a slight decrease, falling from 73,896 to 70,637.
