Guatemala's general prosecutor is removed from job

Juan Luis Florido, Guatemala's general prosecutor, was removed from his job by President Alvaro Colom after 4 years in office.

"I received the resignation of the general prosecutor today and the replacement will be done next thursday", stated Alvaro Colom in a press conference, announcing that José Amílcar Velásquez will assume the vacancy.
The removal of Florido is done months after the discharge of two public servants in relation to the assassination of three deputies of the Central American Parliament and their driver, on February 19, 2007. These servants were the former government minister Carlos Vielmann and the former director of the Guatemalan police, Erwin Sperisen.
