Guatemalan exports to Central American region doubles

Exports to the other Central American countries went from $642.4 million to $1.01 billion, an increase of 57.7%.

According to, "The increase in sales is due to greater demand as a result of CAFTA-DR.

All together, exports have provided $4.84 billion in earnings for the country, some $808.3 million more than the previous year, according to a December 11 report from the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat)."

Costa Rican Exports At $17 billion

Foreign sales of goods and services in 2012 were at record levels, increasing by 8.9% compared with 2011.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Trade reads:

San Jose, January 21, 2013. Costa Rica exported $16.875 billion in goods and services in 2012, exceeding the target set for the period of $15.750 billion.

Guatemalan Exports Grow by 22%

The exporters' association estimates that this year foreign sales will exceed $10 billion.

The rise in international demand and improved prices has led the Guatemalan association of exporters (Agexport) to revise upward its forecast for exports this year.

In early 2011, industry representatives predicted an increase of just 8%, well below the current estimated range of 18% to 22%.

After 18 months of instability and falling levels of trade, in the first quarter of 2010 external trade recorded an increase of $2,406 million, according to statistics from central banks, trade and economy ministers and statistics institutes of Central American countries.

During the first 10 months of 2008, Guatemalan traders increased sales to countries to countries in the region.

Despite the problems created by the global economic crisis, Guatemalan businessmen have not let business opportunities go by.

Exports to other countries in Central America grew by 24.9% during the first 10 months of the year, compared to the same period in 2007, when they reached only 19.3%.
