Guatemalan Textile Exports Down 15.5% in 2009

The country exported $1.28 billion worth of apparel in 2009, 15.5% less than in 2008.

Data from Vestex, the Apparel and Textile Commission, shows that Guatemala sold $1.52 billion in 2008, and that exports have fallen 37.9% in the past 5 years.

"Alejandro Ceballos, head of Vestex, blamed the U.S. recession in 2008 and 2009, as that country is the top destination for Guatemalan textile exports", reported Prensalibre.com.
