Data from the Central Bank of Guatemala (Banguat) shows that this recovery was caused by improved sales in the country’s major export products: coffee, banana, sugar and cardamom.

Trade balance remains negative, however. Exports summed $1.32 billion while imports $1.91 billion, netting a negative $594 million.

Haroldo Zaldívar, from the Guatemalan Exporters Association (Agexport), commented that the crisis and its subsequent economic recovery process do not affect all companies in the same way, but explained that he is optimistic regarding the future.
