Guatemalan Coffee Exports Recover

At the end of this season (2009-10) coffee sales abroad reported an increase of 18%.

According to information from the National Coffee Association (Anacafe), foreign currency from sales abroad during the coffee harvest season (October 2009 to September 2010) were $ 691.4 million compared to $ 561 million generated in the previous season (2008-2009).

"Anacafé estimated that the results are mainly due to the good prices achieved by the product's quality," says Prensalibre.com.

Foreign exchange earnings from exports of the aromatic 2010-11 crop will total $1,100 million.

The $1,100 million figure, represents a 59% increase compared to the 2009-10 harvest ($ 691.4 million), according to the National Coffee Association (Anacafe).

The record revenues are the result of the excellent prices which coffee reached during the 2010/2011 production, an average of $289 per quintal.

Coffee sales abroad in the years 2011-2012 are estimated to increase by 17%.

A 17% increase in export of the harvest which begins in August and ends in October 2012, is expected by the National Coffee Association (Anacafe).

If these estimates are met it would mean that for the first time Guatemala will export the equivalent of $1,000 million worth in bags of coffee, a figure which could be achieved partly thanks to high grain prices that currently prevail internationally.

Latin American Coffee Exports Fall 9.5%

In 2009-2010 coffee exports as a whole for the nine AL producing countries fell 9.5% over the previous harvest.

The total exports from Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Peru and Dominican Republic totaled 23.2 million 60 kilos bags.

Guatemalan coffee exports fall by 14%

According to the National Coffee Association (ANACAFE) exports for the month of August were at a total of 301,363 sacks (60 kilos each).

This figure represents a reduction of 48,294 sacks less than the same month last year, when exports reached 349,657 quintals.
Nonetheless, accumulated exports so far (up to August) for this coffee season which started in October 2007 grew by 4.3% in relation to the same period from the previous season.
