Guatemalan CPI Falls for Third Consecutive Month

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) positioned itself at -0.60%, leaving behind the -0.42% recorded in January

Guatemala: YoY Inflation up to April 2016 is 4,09%

In April, the monthly variation was 0.26%, mainly explained by the behavior of prices of alcoholic beverages, food and transportation.

From a statement issued by the National Statistics Institute:

The monthly variation (0.26%) accelerated in relation to April of the previous year (0.17%); meanwhile accumulated inflation (1.36%), decelerated compared to April 2016 (1.50%), and the year-on-year rate was the same as in the same month of the previous year (4.09%). [GRAFICA caption = "Click to interact with graphics"]

Guatemala: Inflation in October was 0.03%

November 2013

The general level of Consumer Price Index registered a monthly variation of -0.03%, an interanual variation of 4.15% and a cumulative variation of 3.60%.

From information published by the National Statistics Institute (INE):

The most important results of October 2013 are as follows: there was a monthly variation of -0.03%, 4.15% yoy and 3.60% cumulative.

Guatemala Closes a Deflationary 2009

January 2010

In 2009, and for the first time in 27 years, the country recorded a negative inflation rate (-0.28%).

The main causes were the international economic crisis, a contraction in local economic activity and a reduction in remittances.

"Antonieta de Bonilla, Banguat President, considers the situation was the result of a realignment of prices, after they were pushed higher by the elevated price of commodities in 2008".

The Consumer Price Index registered a decrease of 0.42% in the month of January

Elperiodico.com.gt in its website publishes: "Thus, Luis Arroyo, Director of the IPC of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), has affirmed that this is the first time in 25 years that there has been a fall in prices during January."
