Guatemala could be supplied by Alba Petroleos

The new fuel storage facility Alba Petróleos in El Salvador, is being seen as a new option by Guatemalan authorities.

Enrique Melendez, manager of the Guatemalan Association of Petrol Vending noted the possibility of importing petroleum products from the new plant in Acajutla, depending on the conditions of negotiation.

The manager of the Salvadoran Association of Distributors of Petroleum Products, July Villagrán told Prensalibre.com , "I have had contact with Gutamalan and Honduran retailers, and both countries are interested in being serviced by Albapetróleos at some point."

The company announced plans to venture into the liquefied gas market starting January 2011.

Luz Estrella Rodríguez, vice president of Alba Petroleum, made the announcement adding they are currently conducting a market study.

According to Laprensagrafica.com, "…..with regards to construction of a storage facility in Acajutla, Rodriguez said this required an additional investment of approximately $ 10 million, which was covered by their partner, Venezuelan state company PDVSA”.

The fuel storage facility, located in the municipality of Acajutla, El Salvador, will be capable of storing 350.000 barrels.

Construction of the seven storage tanks began on February 2008, and is scheduled to finish on May 2010.
