Guatemala: Venue for the 3rd General Assembly of the CLAC

The Assambly will be held in Antigua, Guatemala, on the 28 and 29 of October of this year.

The General Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Coordinating Committee for Small Producers Organizations of Fair Trade will gather delegates and observers representing small producers organizations of the region, applications for certification, markets, representatives of the industry, requests for international cooperation, and financial agencies and special guests to examine the current state of Fair Trade at a global and regional level, share experiences, and define group strategies.
The CLAC is the union instance of representation, coordination, exchange, and collaboration for the strengthening of the small producers organizations of Latin America and the Caribbean in the framework of Free Trade.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has developed a program to assist small coffee and cacao growers.

Called CAMBio (Central American Markets for Biodiversity), the project is expected to assist over 2.000 growers of the region.

“So far, CAMBio has lent $1.9 million to 2.310 small coffee and organic cacao growers in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Honduras, benefiting some 11.550 people”, reported newspaper La Tribuna.

Switzerland Cooperates With C.A. Growers

María Antonia Zelaya is a spokesperson for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Central America. She informed that "the regional project (comprising from Panama to Belize), is divided into phases, the first one being training.
