Guatemala: Urban Cable Car Concession

The Municipality of Villa Nueva is calling on companies who are interested in the concession, for a period of 25 years, of the first Municipal Line of the Public Air Transport Service by Cable Car.

Guatemala Government Purchase 7184689:

"National and international public tender for the concession of a municipal line of public air transport service by Cable-MIO cable car for the municipality of Villa Nueva of the department of Guatemala.

The route to be proposed by the Bidders must consider the location of Origin and Destination stations.  Origin Station in El Zarzal and Destination Station: the Central Transfer Center of the South (Centrasur) and / or in an adjoining area designated by the Municipality of Villa Nueva and as an intermediate point the location of a Station in the Central District of the Municipality, with this measure the service is expected to benefit at least an approximate population of 96,000 people who use these daily as points of origin, transfer and final destination within the Municipality.

The Concessionaire will build, assemble and install all the necessary infrastructure works as well as the required electromechanical equipment, according to the design and the total planning of the project, authorized by the Municipality of Villa Nueva; all with a hundred percent (100%) private investment."

The deadline for receipt of bids is April 2, 2018.

The Municipality of Guatemala claims to have the permits to use the airspace in streets of the capital and Mixco, and needs an endorsement from the CIV before the route to be used can be decided.

Although last November it was indicated that at the end of that month the specifications would be published to grant in concession the construction and operation of the cable car or aerometer, some procedures and permits have yet to be completed in order to proceed with the tender process.

It has been announced that in late November the request for proposals document will be published for the award in concession of its construction and operation, and it is estimated that the cost will amount to $180 million.

It has been reported that the foreign companies that have already expressed interest in the project are Doppelmayr / Garaventa, of Austria, and the Leitner Poma group. According to municipal authorities, the bidding rules are ready, and will be published on the Guatecompras website later this month.

Panama: Cable Car for San Miguelito

August 2009

Authorities unveiled a proposed $50 million, 3 kilometer cable car transportation project in San Miguelito.

The route will span from Samaria to Samaria Piedra, going through Sinaí, Don Bosco and Río Palomo.

Representative Raún Pineda, who presented the project, stated that it "could be financed using the $1 billion credit line granted by Brazil", reports newspaper La Estrella.
