The aim of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (Inguat) is to strengthen marketing and promotion of the country as a tourist destination in the markets that traditionally have been the main emitters of tourists to Guatemala.

Jorge Mario Chajón, director of the Inguat, explained to Dca.gob.gt that "... the investment aimed at boosting segments such as nature tourism, adventure tourism, meetings, idiomatic tourism, weddings and cruises will be $2.5 million."

Fernando Lobo, director of the Sustainable Tourism Commission at the Guatemalan Exporters Association, commented that "...'Diversification in the sector has given way to countries focusing on attracting the attention of specific businesses, whose characteristics allow them to develop markets not only based on natural wealth, but also on culture, sport, health and knowledge."
