Guatemala: Tender for Road Maintenance

The contracts are for patching work, supervision, resurfacing of roads and main pathways, and bridge maintenance, among other things, on the national road network.

The Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) is inviting bids for 430 road maintenance projects, through the Road Maintenance Fund, in which about $100 million will be invested. The contracts include patching work, supervision, resurfacing of roads, bridges and other maintenance works, on the national road network.

"... For purposes of transparency, the tender conditions of the contests are visible on the Guatecompras website and any company can participate as long as they meet the requirements," said Miguel Cabrera, vice minister of the CIV.

"Within the requirements found in the tender conditions for the System for Procurement and Contracting, is the fact that companies can only put themselves forward for a maximum of three contracts."

"... the maintenance works will be starting after the first half of March, mainly on dirt roads in Huehuetenango, San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Petén, Verapaz and Chimaltenango," added the official.

Road Expansion Remains on Paper

The Guatemalan government will liquidate the works contract to extend 100 km of the CA2 East highway, which connects the department of Escuintla and the border with El Salvador.

The government of Guatemala has agreed with the Brazilian construction company to bring forward the termination of contract for extending the CA-2 Occidente highway and will launch a tender for three contracts to complete the remaining 97-kilometer stretch.

The contract was awarded to construction company Odebrecht in 2012, and after the corruption cases the that it was involved in came to light, the government of Guatemala decided to negotiate the early termination of the contract. The head of the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV), Aldo García, told Elperiodico.com.gt that "... because of the reservation there has been over the investigation of this case, it can only be anticipated that the agreement reached with the company is under legal review, a company which in 2012 obtained the contract for the extension of the CA-2 Occidente highway for US $399 million."

Guatemala: 434 Road Maintenance Contracts

281 contests for road maintenance and 89 supervision projects are in the pipeline.

The Road Maintenance Trust Fund (Covial) is executing a road maintenance plan that involves maintenance works for roads and bridges.

"Since March 4 until yesterday we have published on Guatecompras 209 contests for maintaining paved roads, 72 for repairing unpaved routes and 89 for monitoring projects .Pending contests are for the maintenance of bridges. "

Guatemala puts $156 millions to tender for highways

Guatecompras has assigned contracts for the repair of more than 570 kilometers of roads throughout the country.

According to prensalibre.com, "Previously, the Ministry of Communications reported that the cost of rebuilding the sections of roads that were damaged during the rainy season was Q750 million, but that the current figure from the Road Maintenance Fund (Covial) is Q1.22 billion for 572.18 kilometers of highway in the country.
