Guatemala Prepares to Export Mangos to Chile

Exporters will start sending shipments of the fruit to the South American country once the admissibility process with Chilean authorities has been completed, which is scheduled for March.

From a statement issued by Agexport:

The Mango Committee at AGEXPORT will be concluding the process of eligibility to export to Chile, next March after receiving a certification visit from Chilean SAG inspectors. Once this process is completed, Guatemalan exporters expect to start shipping fresh Guatemalan mangos to the South American country.

95% of mango production in Guatemala is exported to the states of Florida, California and New York in the United States, destinations where there are the largest number of Latino consumers who demand the varieties Tommy Atkins, Kent and Keitt. The other 5% is exported to markets such as the Netherlands, Norway and Central America.

Peru Grows as Mango Exporter

In the last year, Peruvian fresh mango exports to North America, Asia and Europe grew by 21%.

Chile Authorizes Mango Imports from Guatemala

Guatemalan mangos that have had hydrothermal treatment may be exported to Chile, following approval of an import protocol negotiated with the Andean country.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

Chile opens its doors to Guatemalan Mangos.

As a result of successful negotiations, which concluded with the adoption of an import protocol, Guatemalan producers may export the fruit to the Chilean market from May, reported the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of Foreign Trade, Investment, Tourism and cooperation, Sandra Jovel Polanco.

US Imports Mangos from Australia

January 2015

From January 4th this year exports will be permitted of Australian mangos to the North American country, with focus initially being given to the premium segment.

In an alert given in November 2014 the upcoming opening of the US market for mangoes from Australia was reported.

Increased Consumption of Mangos in the U.S.

July 2012

Mango imports in the U.S. rose from $226 million in 2007 to $343 million in 2011, representing an increase of 13%.

A statement from the Costa Rican Trade Office reads:

Bananas are still the leaders among American consumers who purchasesd around 2 billion dollars worth in 2011 and the growth rate for this product is 5% this year.
