Guatemala: New Tender for Customs Tax Stamps

It has been announced a tender will be launched in April for an electronic system to check containers.

After several failed attempts, it has now been announced the tender to install a tracking system to track and monitor the location of containers in Guatemala will be held no later than April, according to the Superintendent of Tax Administration, Francisco Solórzano Foppa.

Dca.gob.gt review that "... it is expected that the Board of the SAT will analyze and test the tender in the next two weeks, which would be one of the first actions to be carried out to strengthen customs controls and reduce contraband".

"... The installation of electronic devices will be required for containers with goods in transit with a final destination in other countries, and those that are going to bonded warehouses and tax areas without the payment of VAT on imports or customs duties on imports (DAI). When the merchandise is released, they are required to pay taxes." reported Prensalibre.com.

The government has announced that in 2015 it will launch a public tender to purchase security bracelets for $2 million.

From a statement from the Ministry of Public Security in Panama:

The Government will be investing approximately $2 million in bracelets with Global Positioning Systems (GPS), to monitor inmates in prisons, who have special exit permits and those who are being investigated for domestic violence.

Tender Announced For Information Platform in Guatemala

November 2013

The Tax Authority is inviting bids for supplying a technology platform and cloud services to replace the current system.

This was announced by Carlos Munoz, chief of the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT).

"The decision comes after the executive decided to conduct an "operational intervention" to increase control of customs procedures in order to increase revenue," noted an article in Elperiodico.com.gt.
