The funding of the Institute for the Promotion of Insured Mortgages (FHA) will benefit some 20,000 property owners in already developed areas.

Sergio Irungaray, FHA operations manager, told Elperiodico.com.gt, "The construction of the houses is made by a developer chosen by the interested parties or within a list of companies that we provide. There is a period of 20 to 25 years to repay the loan at an interest rate of 10 to 10.5 percent."

In Guatemala, the demand for housing grows between 55,000 and 60,000 units every year, but only 20,000 new houses are built, calculates the Guatemalan Chamber of Construction (CGC).

Rodblu and Stitchkin, a Costa Rican-Chilean company, will start the construction of a residential complex in June.

It will be located in Barreal de Heredia, and will comprise two towers, one 11 stories high and the other 21. The first should be ready by June 2011, while the second is planned for March 2013.
