30 companies participated in this event, of which 17 are interested in participating.

Carlos Colom, president of CNEE, explained that these include Enel Green and Gamesa.

Electric Market Plan Until 2022

A recently released Expansion Plan states Guatemala could output up to 4.700 MW, by building 50 power plants of different types.

CNEE, the National Electric Energy Commission, has devised the Energy Generation Expansion Plan for 2008-2022, which aims to generate 4.690 MW by constructing 50 power plants. From these, 34 hydroelectric and two geothermal energy projects have already been approved.
