Tuesday, August 12, 2014

The purpose of this certification is for companies interested in attracting foreign partners to be able to prove they comply with labor laws in the country, as explained by representatives of the American Guatemalan Chamber of Commerce (Amcham), developer of the tool.

Carolina Castellanos, Executive Director of AmCham said "... the tool 'was created to give businesses an overview of what they need to improve or strengthen, to maintain continuous compliance with the labor law of the country and also gives them support at the global level so that international companies can feel more confident when creating strategic and commercial partnerships.'"

Prensalibre.com reports that "...Companies that decide to undertake the process to obtain this certification, can seek out three types of certification levels. The first is the Good Employer which involves complying with the Labor Law in Guatemala related to freedom of association, working hours, discrimination, contractual relations, child labor, payment, performance, safety, health permits and operating licenses.
