Guatemala: Inflation Rate Accelerates

After registering a 4.5% year-on-year variation in the Consumer Price Index in May, in June the inflationary rhythm rose to 4.8%.

The most important inflation levels in June 2019 are as follows: 0.83% monthly inflation, 4.80% inflationary rhythm and 3.17% accumulated inflation, reported the National Statistics Institute.

The document explains that "... Out of the twelve expense divisions that make up the CPI, communications (6.55%), food (1.49%), health (0.22%), reflect the behavior in the price level of inflation up to June 2019. On the other hand, recreation (-0.57%), housing (-0.21%), clothing (-0.13%), transportation (-0.13%), present negative variations in their price level.

The inflationary rhythm in June 2019 (4.80%) rose 1.01 regarding the observed in the same month the previous year (3.79%). And regarding the registered in May 2019 (4.54%) rose 0.26.

The inflationary rhythm up to June 2019 (4.80%), is the highest observed in the months of June of the 2012-2018 period, and is above the average (3.77) of the mentioned period.

After March 2019, the year-on-year variation of the country's Consumer Price Index stood at 4.2%, in April it reached 4.8%, a rise explained by transportation prices.

During the second month of the year, transportation and recreation were some of the spending divisions that caused the rise of the CPI in the country.

The most important inflation levels of February 2019 are the following: monthly inflation of 0.14%, inflationary rhythm of 4.46% and accumulated inflation of 1.49%, informed the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Guatemala: Inflation Decelerated in 2018

January 2019

Up to December of last year, the year-on-year variation of the Consumer Price Index was 2.3%, an inflationary rhythm lower than the 5.7% recorded at the end of 2017.

The most important inflation levels for December 2018 are as follows: 0.13% monthly inflation, 2.31% inflationary rhythm and 2.31% cumulative inflation.
