Guatemala: Further Growth in Ocean Freight

Maritime cargo moving through Guatemalan ports in the first half of the year increased by 14% compared to the same period in 2014, a year in which cargo increased by 17% compared to 2013. During the period the ports received 1918 vessels, of which 13% were bringing liquid bulk cargo and 12% dry bulk.

A report by the National Port Commission (CNP) explains that "... By type of load, they have mobilized 5.9 million tons of solid bulk; 5.5 million containerized; 3.3 million of liquid bulk and 879 thousand tons in general. "

Prensalibre.com reports that "... Movements through port terminals indicate that the Port of Quetzal has transported 7.1 million tons; Santo Tomas de Castilla, 4.8 million; Puerto Barrios, two million; and Las Buoys de San Jose which specializes in handling liquids-1.6 million metric tons. "
