Guatemala: Economic Situation in December 2015

Financial intermediation, trade, agriculture, livestock and fishing, private services, manufacturing and transport, storage and communications boosted growth in economic activity.

From a statement issued by the Bank of Guatemala:

Economic activity measured by estimating IMAE up to December 2015 showed a growth of 4.2% (4.9% in December 2014).

This result was driven by the positive performance seen mainly in economic activities in financial, insurance intermediation and auxiliary activities; Wholesale and Retail; agriculture, hunting, forestry and fishing; private services; Manufacturing industries; and transport, storage and communications.

The seasonally adjusted series registered a variation of 0.5% in December 2015 compared to the previous month, while the trend cycle recorded a rate of growth of 3.9%, less dynamic than a year ago.

In June, the growth rate of economic activity was 3.2% more than in the same period in 2015, which was slightly below 4% at that time.

Economic activity in Guatemala grew by 2.9% in the first month of 2016, according to figures from the Bank of Guatemala.

In September, the economy registered a growth of 3.7%, mainly due to the commercial, agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
