Economic activity measured by the IMAE estimate, in January 2018, showed a growth rate of 2.1% (2.8% in January 2017). Click to interact with graphClick to interact with graph

This behavior was influenced by the positive result experienced, mainly, by the following economic activities: Transportation, storage and communications; Private services; and Wholesale and retail trade. 

The seasonally adjusted series registered a variation rate of -0.8% in January 2018 as compared to the previous month (0.8% in December 2017), while the trend-cycle recorded a year-on-year growth rate of 3.0%, lower than was observed in the same month of the previous year (3.3%).

Influenced in part by the performance of the transportation and services sectors, economic activity in Guatemala reported a year-on-year growth of 3.4% in July.

The behavior in the seventh month of the year was influenced by growth shown by the following economic activities: Transportation, storage and communications, Wholesale and retail trade, Private services and the Manufacturing industries.

Economic activity measured by the IMAE estimate, in March 2018, showed a growth rate of 2.0% (3.9% in March 2017).

Guatemala: Economic Activity Weakens

November 2017

In September 2017, economic activity grew at a rate of 2.8%, below the rate of 3.1% registered in the same month last year.

Guatemala: Economic Activity Grows 3.2% up to March 2017

As in January and February, the trade sector explained most of the variation in the economic activity index in March, which registered a rise of 3.2% compared to the same month in 2016.
