Guatemala: Economic Activity Accelerates

After recording at the end of 2017, a 2.6% year-on-year increase in economic activity, in December last year the IMAE closed a 3.3% increase.

The most recent figures estimated by the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat) specify that between November and December last year, economic activity registered a 5.7% increase.

The Banguat's report states that "... The economic activity measured by the IMAE estimate, in December 2018, showed a 3.3% growth rate (2.6% in December 2017).

Such behavior was influenced by the positive result experienced, mainly, by the following economic activities: Wholesale and retail trade; Private services; Manufacturing industries; and Transportation, storage and communications.

The trend-cycle series registered a 3.6% year-on-year growth rate, higher than that observed in the same month of the previous year (2.6%).

Services and Industry Boost Economic Activity

August 2019

In Guatemala, the Economic Activity Index registered year-on-year growth of 3.1% in June, explained in part by the variations of Private Services and Manufacturing Industries.

According to the report of the Banco de Guatemala the economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE, reported a deceleration in June 2019, since it registered a 3.1% growth rate, increase that is lower to the variation of 3.5% reported in May of this year.

Private Services Dynamize Economic Activity

During October, economic activity in Guatemala reported a 3.3% increase over the same month in 2017, mainly because of the performance of private services and wholesale and retail trade.

The Banco de Guatemala (Banguat) reported that the economic activity according to the IMAE estimation, in October 2018, showed a 3.3% growth rate (3.7% in October 2017).

November 2018

In September, economic activity reported a 3% increase over the same month in 2017, mainly because of the performance of the transport and commerce sector.

The Banco de Guatemala reported that the economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE in September 2018, presented a growth rate of 3.0% (2.3% in September 2017).

Guatemala: Economic Activity Up 2% in January 2018

March 2018

Transport, private services and trade were the sectors that accounted for most of the variation in the economic activity index during the beginning of the year.
