Guatemala: Curfew Extended to April 12

The government decided to extend for two more weeks the measures restricting freedom of movement, which includes the transit and movement of persons, crew, passengers and vehicles, between 4 pm and 5 am.

The restriction measures were decreed with the aim of containing the spread of covid-19, and the text detailing the government's provisions was published in the March 29 edition of Diario de Centro América.

The text reviews that "... All commercial establishments or services of any kind or nature must be closed for public health restrictions 24 hours a day.

The services or shops described in the following conditions are exempt from the above restriction:

1) Between 4 and 16 hours, the following shops or services may carry out their activities:

(a) Supermarkets, grocery stores and convenience stores
(b) Restaurants providing home delivery or take-away only
c) Hotels, pensions and their corresponding food service in the room of their guests, under their strict responsibility
(d) Banks, finance companies, insurance companies and cooperatives using special or self-service windows or procedures
(e) Agricultural, livestock, phytosanitary and water resource activities
(f) Livestock activities
(g) Transport of humanitarian aid

2) The municipal and cantonal markets...

In order to reduce the effects of the pandemic that caused the outbreak of Covid-19, from April 27 to May 16, there will be restrictions on vehicle traffic from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day.

In order to prevent the spread of covid-19, the government ordered an 8-day limit on freedom of movement in the country, which includes the transit and movement of persons, crew, passengers and vehicles, between 4 p.m. and 4 a.m. the following day.

The restriction will be in force from Sunday, March 22nd, until Sunday, March 29th.
