Guatemala: Cup of Excellence Auction

On July 8, 23 lots of coffee will participate in the online auction. It is expected that the maximum price of $80.20 per pound achieved in the previous issue will be surpassed.

In the 2009 edition of the Cup of Excellence in Guatemala, El Injerto Farm obtained first place for the second consecutive year, achieving a score of 91.98. Montecristo farm, which received the same overall average score as the first place winner, was given second place through the determination of the judges.

The website published: "Third place went to Las Macadamias, Huehuetenango farm with a score of 89.33, Alotepeque, Concepción Las Minas, Chiquimula came in fourth place with 89.25 points, and La Esperanza farm, also in La Libertad, Huehuetenango, came in fifth place with 89.25 points."

The Internet auction of the best lots of coffee in Guatemala will take place on July 12th. Growers have until March 30th to submit samples.

The National Coffee Association (Anacafe) has started receiving samples of the best beans from Guatemala to participate in the online auction ‘The Cup of Excellence 2012’, to be held on 12th July, reported

$28 per Pound for Guatemalan Coffee

This was the price achieved by coffee from the El Injerto plantation in the electronic auction held at the Cup of Excellence event.

In second place was Rosma plantation, which got $22.10 per pound. Las Macadamias came third.

“According to the Guatemalan National Coffee Association (Anacafé), the average price paid was $8.92 with a total 34,980 kg sold equivalent to $712,234.

The highest price was paid for coffee from the El Injerto farm, at $22.04 per pound, $58.16 less than the 2008 record.

Las Macadamias and Montecristo farms obtained the second and third place with $14.55 and $12.10 per pound.

The selection process began yesterday. Out of 102 total lots, 79 have already been selected, which will later participate in an electronic auction.

Lots that receive more than 80 points in the tasting by international experts can later participate in the electronic auction.
