Guatemala: August Remittances Total $6.855 Million

From January to August 2019, family remittances to Guatemala totaled $6.855 million, 13% more than in the same period in 2018.

The most recent figures from the Bank of Guatemala indicate that in August 2019 the country received $981 million in remittances, 14% more than the $860 million recorded in the same month in 2018.

Between the first eight months of 2013 and the same period in 2019, remittance income practically doubled, from $3.380 million in 2013 to $6.855 million in 2019.

The 13% increase recorded from January to August of this year with respect to the same period of 2018, represents an acceleration in the growth of remittance flow, since for the first eight months of 2018 a 12% growth was reported.

Income for the eighth month of this year totaled $981 million, an amount that exceeded the average value of remittances received during August of the last five years, since the flow reaches an average of $638 million.

The most recent data from the Bank of Guatemala show that in February 2019 the country received $690 million in remittances, 10% more than the $630 million recorded in the same month in 2018.

In the first eight months of the year, income from family remittances totaled $6.077 billion, exceeding by 12% the amount reported in the same period in 2017.

The most recent figures from Banco de Guatemala show that in August 2018 the country received $860 million in the form of remittances, an amount that exceeds by 22% the $708 million registered in the same month in 2017.
