A report by the National Institute of Statistics shows that the Consumer Price Index for August 2016 stood at 125.72, recording a monthly variation of 0.18%, and compared to August last year the variation was 4, 74%.

The monthly variation recorded in August 2016 stood at 0.18%, which shows an acceleration in the price level of 0.11 compared to August 2015 (0.07%). The monthly variation recorded in August 2016 is the fourth highest in the months of August in the period 2009-2015 and is below the 0.08 average of 0.26 for the aforementioned period.

Of the twelve divisions that make up the CPI expenditure, food (0.45%), health (0.27%), and apparel (0.20%) account the most for the level of inflation reached in August 2016 (0.18%). Meanwhile housing (-0.20%), and transport (-0.13%) presented negative variations in the price level.
