Guatemala: $10 million Investment in Maximum Security Prison

Taiwan's government has pledged to invest in the construction of a maximum security prison next year.

The announcement was released after a meeting of the elected president, Otto Perez Molina with the Ambassador of Taiwan in Guatemala.

Prensalibre.com quoted Otto Perez Molina who said: "The agenda of cooperation with the Republic of Taiwan is broad ranging. We are talking about maintaining the support received by the country for the Ministries of Communications and Agriculture, as well as the security issue."

For its part, the ambassador reiterated that his government will continue building the second phase of the road from El Rancho to the capital.

The Government presented the draft of the new maximum security prison to be built with a donation from the Government of Taiwan.

Nery Morales, Interior Ministry spokesman said that they have not yet identified the property where it will be built, but are managing two options. He added that they are awaiting a U.S. architect specialized in these types of constructions.
