In 2016 sales of prepared and preserved fish from Central America totaled $110 million, and sales to the European country grew by 52% compared to 2015.

Variation of regional exports  
Between 2015 and 2016, the export value of prepared and conserved fish from Central America did not change, as during both years sales abroad totalled $111 million. The volume exported also did not change, as 27 thousand tons were sold each year.

However, the value exported to Italy grew by 52%, rising from $15 million in 2015 to $23 million in 2016.

Exports by country 
In 2016 the main exporter was El Salvador, with $79 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $30 million and Panama, with $2 million. Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua did not record significant exports. 

Destination of exports 
In 2016, 21% of the value exported from Central America was destined for Italy, 20% for Spain, 6% for Germany and 5% for the United States.

Italy is the destination of Central American exports that has grown the most in the last 5 years. In 2012 it represented 6% of the total value sold, and in 2016 the figure reached 21%.

More Costa Rica Pineapples in Spain

September 2017

In 2016, pineapple exports from Costa Rica to the European country totaled $64 million, 12% more than was sold during the previous year.

Central America: Fish Exports Down 8%

In 2016 the value of exports of fish, molluscs and crustaceans reached $714 million, equivalent in volume to 114 thousand tons, 8% less than the amount sold in 2015.
