Growing Investment in Parking Lots

The growing demand for parking has led to the emergence of dozens of new parking lots in San Jose over the last 3 years, with 296 patents having been processed in 2011 alone.

Monday, April 23, 2012

Yendry Rivera, of San Jose City's Mayor's Office, said that in 2009 the county processed 278 patents for parking lots, in 2010 the figure rose to 285, and last year to 296, reported Nacion.com.

Daniel Monge, in charge of finance at the Costa Rican Association of Parking and Related Issues- which brings together about 183 owners, argued that the proliferation of parking is due to a greater demand from visitors to the center of the capital and surrounding areas.

A good example is the new parking facilities at the Hospital Clinica Biblica. The center is building a huge parking building with capacity to 650 cars in the initial stage, and even a helipad that will simultaneously serve three helicopters, said Bernal Aragon, director of the medical center. The work will cost $15 million, and will be financed by the Banco de Costa Rica. Its opening is scheduled for July.
