Government Infrastructure: $190 Million in Investments

Last year in Central American countries, 31 environmental impact studies were presented for construction projects of buildings for government institutions.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Trade Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions of each country.

Costa Rica is the country with the largest investment, with nearly $119 million in projects for the construction of new buildings and the restoration of existing ones, corresponding to 13 environmental impact studies presented in 2018.

In El Salvador, three studies were presented for the construction of government infrastructure, which together add up to an investment of approximately $34 million. One of the projects is the construction of two office buildings for the Supreme Court of Justice.

In Panama, 12 EIAs were also presented, which together total an investment of approximately $26 million. The construction of a building for the Inter-Agency Center for Operations and Emergencies, in the town of Ancon, stands out.

Two studies were presented in Honduras, one of them referring to the construction of the U.S. Embassy in the country.

Commercial Construction: $500 Million in New Investments

August 2019

In the first quarter of the year, 127 environmental impact studies were presented for the construction of commercial buildings in Central American countries, with Costa Rica and Guatemala representing most of the estimated investment.

Commercial Sector: $1.793 Million in Investments

May 2019

During 2018, 345 environmental impact studies were presented for the construction of commercial buildings in Central American countries, with Costa Rica and El Salvador representing the largest share of the estimated investment.
