Gold: Nicaragua Led Exports in 2021

For 2021, gold exports in Central America obtained a 387% increase in sales by reaching $310 million, with Nicaragua being the main exporter with a value of $1,534 million and a volume of 47 tons, being the main buyer the United States with $1,064 million.

Exports by Country
For 2021, the main exporter was Nicaragua with $1,534.3 million, followed by Honduras with $278.6 million, Costa Rica with $21.5 million and Panama with $12 million. Guatemala and El Salvador did not record significant exports.

Variation in Regional Exports
Between 2020 and 2021, the value of gold exports from Central America increased by 387.1%, rising from $63.6 million to $309.7 million.
During the periods in question, the volume exported grew 384%, from 2.1 tons to 10.2 tons.

Destination of Exports
In 2021, almost the entire value exported from Central America was destined for the U.S., representing 96.3%, in addition to Switzerland (3.2%) and Austria (0.3%).

However, in 2012 and 2013 Canada bought more than half of Central American gold exports, in 2014 it bought 37% and in 2015 its purchases fell until they disappeared.

For 2021, there was a 74% increase equivalent to $548 million for a volume of 1,028,504 tons of ceramic products, with Guatemala being the largest importer with $83 million, the main supplier to the Central American region was Spain with 19% of purchases with $105 million.

Truck Tires: China is the Main supplier

July 2022

For 2021, the value of imports of tires for use in buses and trucks in Central America is observed for $299 million, which is an increase in the variation of almost 40% from the period analyzed from 2012 to 2020, in addition, the main supplier of this product is China, which has led in the region.
