Variation of regional imports  
Between 2016 and 2017, the value of glass imported into Central America registered a slight increase of 1%, going from $301 million to $304 million. 

For the years in question, the value imported from the USA increased by 5%, going from $35 million to $37 million.

Imports by country 
In 2017, the main importer in Central America was Guatemala with $78 million, followed by Costa Rica with $58 million, Panama with $57 million, Honduras with $47 million, El Salvador with $36 million and Nicaragua with $28 million. 

Origin of imports 
Over the past year, 25% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 13% from Mexico, 12% from the USA and 3% from Colombia.

China is the market origin of imports that has grown the most in recent years, as in 2012 it represented 16% of the total value imported by the region and in 2017 this figure reached 25%.

More Chinese Glass in Guatemala

November 2017

In 2016, purchases of glass and its manufactures abroad totaled $69 million, and compared to 2015, imports from China and Costa Rica grew by 18% and 34%, respectively.

Central America Imports More Glass from China

August 2017

In 2016 imports of glass and its manufactures into Central American countries totaled $301 million, and the value imported from the Asian country grew by 27% compared to 2015.
