Getting the Most Out of Fruits

With an investment of $4 million, fruit that has been discarded for sale as fresh produce will be exported diced and frozen by a Nicaraguan company.

A plant belonging to Frozen Fruit SA will process fruit that has been discarded for sale as fresh produce, starting operations next week in the town of El Jicaral, in the pr province of Leon, Nicaragua.

"Now with Frozen Fruit, SA mangos which do not meet the conditions required by the fresh fruit market will be peeled , frozen and diced and then exported to traditional markets. This year the plant will process about 1,700 tons of frozen fruit but by 2013 the volume will rise to 3,500 tonnes", reported Laprensa.com.ni

The plant will not only process mangos, this year there are also plans to export frozen banana, okra, sweet potato and edamame (similar to soy).

Frozen Fruit Sales: Good Numbers for Costa Rica

In the first quarter of 2018, the country exported $19 million worth of frozen fruit, registering an increase of 8% with respect to exports in the same period in 2017.
