Germany investments in Panama increase

"Panama is the main destination for German investments in Central America," said Ubertus Legge, economic adviser at the German Embassy in Panama.

The Embassy does not keep track of the flow of investment nor could they indicate the total amount of investment and data for all the companies that have entered the Panama market in the last few years, however they did point out that said investments have increased considerable during the last decade.

The Panama Germany Chamber of Trade and Industry said the same thing.

Some 80 multinationals are currently operating in the Panama Pacific Special Economic Area (AEPP) and this figure is expected to continue rising, as is the number of new jobs.

French Investment in Panama

French companies have invested over $700 million so far, and the figure could reach over $2 billion.

Hughes Goisbault, French Ambassador, remarked that France can’t miss being in a country that grows as fast as Panama, far more than its Central America neighbors.

As the article in AFP reports, “the Panamanian Economy has grown at an average 7% over the past 5 years, and will grow 5% in 2010”.

Panama is the main destination for Spanish investors

Panama is the main receptor of Spanish investments in Central America and projections indicate that this will continue to increase.

Panama has not escaped the expansion of Spanish capital. Based on figures provided by the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Panama, investments have surpassed $317 million, and are headed by Unión FENOSA, Telefónica and the BBVA.
