The Ministry of Finance announced on September 1, new variations in the reference prices for fuel, which will be in effect from 2 to 15 of September 2014.
The new variations of the reference prices for fuel in the country, are as follows: decrease in special gasoline - $0.05 in the central and western areas, and - $0.04 in the east; decrease in regular gasoline - $0.01 in the west and no change in the central and eastern areas; decrease in diesel - $0.03 in the three areas of the country.
In August, the price of WTI (West Texas Intermediate) in the Gulf Coast of the United States had an average value of $84.16 per barrel, a decrease of -8.55% from the previous month. Turn in recent weeks, international prices of petroleum products recorded the following changes: -7.05% in the price of a gallon of premium gasoline, -3.74% in the price of regular gasoline and -1.01% in the price of diesel.
The behavior of international fuel prices has been impacted by the negative expectations of oil consumption in the coming months, combined with disappointing results in the economy of the United States.
In Central America, El Salvador is ranked in second place for having the lowest prices of gasoline and diesel:

Price of a gallon of regular gasoline: Costa Rica $4.31, Nicaragua $3.90, Honduras $3.81, El Salvador $3.51, Guatemala $3.40 and Panama $3.23.

According to the latest report provided by the International Energy Agency (AIE) gasoline stocks went down by approximately 1.7 million barrels per week, but it was not so for distillates and diesel which had a slight increase in their reserves, of approximately 0.8 million barrels per week.
Gallon of regular gas: $3.43 Panama, Guatemala $3.70, $3.82 El Salvador, Nicaragua $4.07, Honduras $4.33 and Costa Rica $5.16.
