GBM Data Center in Guatemala

The agency Invest In Guatemala has announced the start of construction of a data center for GBM, an American subsidiary of IBM, with an investment of $70 million.

GBM, a subsidiary of IBM, will lay the foundation stone in March for the construction of a new complex to house a data center in Guatemala, which will enable provision of a ‘cloud computing’ service for Central American companies.

Luis David, director of the agency Invest In Guatemala, said this represents a technological breakthrough which will generate formal employment in the computer field, as well as indirect jobs, according ElPeriodico.com.gt.

Sergio de la Torre, the finance minister, estimated that GBM’s investment would be around $70 million. Guatemala will be a hub from which to serve the Central American market, the official said.

KIO Networks Opens Regional Data Center in Panama

The information technology firm has opened a data center in Panama Pacifico, with an initial investment of $35 million.

The complex consists of 2 data centers within a 6,000 m2 technology campus, located in the Special Economic Area Panama Pacifico, which will initially employ 100 people.

$4.5 Million C&W Investment in Panama

Cable & Wireless (C&W) will set up its new data center in the Panama Pacifico Special Economic Area (AEEPP in Spanish), located in Howard.

José Quintero, C&W Executive Director of Technology, indicated that the development of the company's new data storage center will increase its capacity to supply application hosting services.
